Song of the Universal

February 7th, 2011

"Come said the Muse, Sing me a song no poet yet has chanted, Sing me the universal. In this broad earth of ours, Amid the measureless grossness and the slag, Enclosed and safe within its central heart, Nestles the seed perfection. By every life a share or more or less, None born but it is born, conceal'd or unconceal'd the seed is waiting. Lo! keen-eyed towering science, As from tall peaks the modern overlooking, Successive absolute fiats issuing. Yet again, lo! the soul, above all science, For it has history gather'd like husks around the globe, For it the entire star-myriads roll through the sky. In spiral routes by long detours, (As a much-tacking ship upon the sea,) For it the partial to the permanent flowing, For it the real to the ideal tends. For it the mystic evolution, Not the right only justified, what we call evil also justified. Forth from their masks, no matter what, From the huge festering trunk, from craft and guile and tears, Health to emerge and joy, joy universal. Out of the bulk, the morbid and the shallow, Out of the bad majority, the varied countless frauds of men and states, Electric, antiseptic yet, cleaving, suffusing all, Only the good is universal. Over the mountain-growths disease and sorrow, An uncaught bird is ever hovering, hovering, High in the purer, happier air. From imperfection's murkiest cloud, Darts always forth one ray of perfect light, One flash of heaven's glory. To fashion's, custom's discord, To the mad Babel-din, the deafening orgies, Soothing each lull a strain is heard, just heard, From some far shore the final chorus sounding. O the blest eyes, the happy hearts, That see, that know the guiding thread so fine, Along the mighty labyrinth. And thou America, For the scheme's culmination, its thought and its reality, For these (not for thyself) thou hast arrived. Thou too surroundest all, Embracing carrying welcoming all, thou too by pathways broad and new, To the ideal tendest. The measure'd faiths of other lands, the grandeurs of the past, Are not for thee, but grandeurs of thine own, Deific faiths and amplitudes, absorbing, comprehending all, All eligible to all. All, all for immortality, Love like the light silently wrapping all, Nature's amelioration blessing all, The blossoms, fruits of ages, orchards divine and certain, Forms, objects, growths, humanities, to spiritual images ripening. Give me O God to sing that thought, Give me, give him or her I love this quenchless faith, In Thy ensemble, whatever else withheld withhold not from us, Belief in plan of Thee enclosed in Time and Space, Health, peace, salvation universal. Is it a dream? Nay but the lack of it the dream, And failing it life's lore and wealth a dream, And all the world a dream." ~ Walt Whitman

Raison d’être

There they are, in my own handwriting: the words that have been my prayer, evening after evening. I copied them from the books I found them in, so that they would be right in front of me, issued from my hand as if they were my own words. And now I want to write them again, kneeling here before my tablet I want to write them; for in this way I can have them with me longer than when I read them, and every word will last and have time to echo and fade away.

- R. M. Rilke

"Your name was whispered before you were born, and out from the mist your image took form. The Spirit of Life had begun its quest, to learn of itself through the ultimate test: A being of light set free in creation, to master the gift of imagination..."

I am circling around God, around the ancient tower,
and I have been circling for a thousand years,
and I still don’t know if I am a falcon, or a storm,
or a great song.

(Rainer Maria Rilke)

At night, by the fire,
The colors of the bushes
And of the fallen leaves,
Repeating themselves,
Turned in the room,
Like the leaves themselves
Turning in the wind.
Yes: but the color of the heavy hemlocks
Came striding.
And I remembered the cry of the peacocks.

(Wallace Stevens)

Dante's Prayer Lyrics: When the dark wood fell before me And all the paths were overgrown When the priests of pride say there is no other way I tilled the sorrows of stone I did not believe because I could not see Though you came to me in the night When the dawn seemed forever lost You showed me your love in the light of the stars Cast your eyes on the ocean Cast your soul to the sea When the dark night seems endless Please remember me Then the mountain rose before me By the deep well of desire From the fountain of forgiveness Beyond the ice and fire Cast your eyes on the ocean Cast your soul to the sea When the dark night seems endless Please remember me Though we share this humble path, alone How fragile is the heart Oh give these clay feet wings to fly To touch the face of the stars Breathe life into this feeble heart Lift this mortal veil of fear Take these crumbled hopes, etched with tears We'll rise above these earthly cares Cast your eyes on the ocean Cast your soul to the sea When the dark night seems endless Please remember me

Your life and my life flow into each other
as wave flows into wave,
and unless there is peace and joy and freedom for you,
there can be no real peace or joy or freedom for me.
To see reality: -- Not as we expect it to be, but as it is.

It is to see that unless we live for each other, and in, and through each other,
we do not really live very satisfactorily.
There can really be life,
only where there really is. In just this sense, love. - Frederick Buechner

This is love:
to fly toward a secret sky,
to cause a hundred veils to fall each moment.
First, to let go of life.
In the end,
to take a step without feet;
to regard this world as invisible,
and to disregard what appears to be the self...

Deafened by the voice of desire you are unaware
the Beloved lives in the core of your heart.
Stop the noise and you will hear His voice in the silence...Rumi

Global Edit Pricing Utility or Default Preload

November 11th, 2010

Aloha Sean, the global edit pricing utility or default preload seems to be only effective for the newly published work.

I have been researching SSI, javascript, PHP Dreamweaver and 'find and replace". There must be a way.

When I upload a new image, the pricing categories are now automatically generated.. autofill, and that is a good thing, thank you so much for this new function.

The issue remaining is that the global edit pricing utility is not retroactive, meaning it does not affect or change or update the existing images which are already published in my portfolio archives. That is what I need. I need the process to manage multiple web pages in my existing portfolio, and once I set the default pricing, all the existing images in my galleries will be updated.

Lucky We Live Hawaii

November 9th, 2010

My artistic interests include: Love, Ohana, Spirituality, Beauty in Nature and Fine Art Photography

Many people have a surrealistic movie industry influenced unrealistic perception of the Hawaiian islands and her people.

Much of my work is to help educate, to enlighten the world, perpetuate and promote true Hawaiian culture by providing within my descriptions and commentary beautiful mele, songs and poetry, along with fascinating history and Hawaiian language which also reveals my deeply spiritual nature as well as the sources of my creative inspiration and personal interests . My husband is Kanaka Maoli, (Jacob is indigenous Hawaiian). Through my photography and conceptual art I work to embrace the world with Aloha spirit, to nurture and care for our keiki (children) and our ohana (family and friends) as well as to love and care for our beautiful tropical island home, to help malama the aina, (care for the island and ocean, from mauka to makai, from the mountains to the Pacific ocean we work to preserve and protect our unique ecosystem, our lovely tropical environment, our natural resources, water rights and indigenous plants and wildlife), and we have alot of fun along the way. After all, we are so blessed to be living on Maui :)))
