Artist's Description
For the family that owns this beautiful land on the slopes of Haleakalā it is one of the few ranches on Maui remaining, protecting thousands of acres of mostly undeveloped open space in it's natural state. Ka`ono`ulu means either “the delicious breadfruit” or “the desire for breadfruit” in Hawaiian. Ka`ono`ulu ranch is an almost complete ahupua‘a from near the summit of Haleakalā to near Maui’s southern coast. This photograph was taken at Kula Country Farms, which is a 4th generation farm located on the slopes of Haleakalā not far upcountry from Makawao, in the garden with the miniature replicas of Kula landmarks.
