The Old Well at UNC has stood at the center of campus life and traditions since 1897. The neoclassical structure, with its inspiration from Versailles's Temple of Love, houses a drinking fountain.
University of North Carolina's iconic South Building serves is a fitting backdrop for the Old Well. Completed in 1814, following 16 years of construction and fund raising, South Hall served as a dormitory prior to its current use for university administration. The portico, added in 1927, offers a commanding view of Polk Place and the Wilson Library.
